The Problem

Many families are unaware of how cooking methods impact nutrient retention in food. There’s a lack of accessible, culturally relevant educational materials that explain this concept in a simple, engaging, and visually digestible way.

The Solution

I designed a one-page instructional flyer for CHIFAN NYC that educates families about various cooking methods—ranking them by nutrient retention and explaining their trade-offs in water, oil, and heat usage. The design emphasizes clarity, cultural sensitivity, and behavior-friendly tips for healthier cooking.

My Process

Content:

I collaborated closely with a nutritionist SME from CHIFAN NYC to accurately represent the relationship between cooking methods and nutrient retention. Together, we ensured each method was explained in a way that was visually intuitive and self-explanatory to the target audience (multilingual, family-based learners).

Storyboarding:

I began with a rough wireframe that laid out how learners would visually scan and compare methods. I prioritized a top-down flow that aligns with the question: "Which cooking method should I use if I want to retain more nutrients?" The top section introduces the science, followed by ranked visual blocks for quick comparison, and closes with actionable tips for behavior change.

Visual Mockup:

  • I followed CHIFAN NYC’s branding guidelines for fonts and color palettes to maintain visual consistency.

  • Instructional text (e.g., “Did you know…”, “Below are common cooking methods…”) uses brand-highlighted colors for emphasis and readability.

  • Each cooking method block was custom-designed to convey data using icons, reducing the cognitive load of text-heavy explanations.

Development:

I used Canva to create the entire flyer, leveraging its visual layout tools and iconography to balance educational clarity and visual appeal. The final product is print- and web-ready.
